Ageism is the generic term for stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination against people based on their age. Age discrimination primarily affects older people. It has a negative impact on their health and well-being, and is the cause of premature death and higher healthcare costs. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations (UN) have called for urgent action to combat ageism and the UN Human Rights Council has even called for a ban, there is still no Switzerland-wide research-based initiative to raise awareness and prevent ageism. Our project aims to close this gap and achieve both scientific and social impact with four main objectives:

  1. Providing tailored and easily accessible education on age discrimination and raising awareness in Swiss society
  2. Building a community that brings together different interest groups, promotes dialog between generations and gives a voice to people affected by ageism in their everyday lives
  3. Advance interdisciplinary research on age discrimination using real data and modern analysis methods (machine learning/AI)
  4. Advising policy makers with data-driven recommendations and guidelines
